Burden Basket

Lay it down, lay it down
Too heavy more to bear
Can I rest now, rest my weary heart
Is there anywhere

Must I pile my burdens higher
Carry them within
Be burdened down with many sorrows
Another basket weave

Every dawn shall I rise to reach
For another strand of fear
To pattern into my burden basket
And grasp it very near

Then will I struggle through the day
Bearing of that heavy load
Weighed down with every sadness
To claim it as my own

Would I want to set it down
Could I bear to be set free
Do I like its old familiar chords
Gripping hold of me.

Master weaver might there be
A lighter way to live
If I let You have that basket
What joy would then begin.

Soft Whispers for you from Derry's Heart Poems &copy 2005

"Come to me,
all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest....
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."..

Parable Of The Unwise Bee

Sometimes our desires to become independent and more self-reliant are so strong that we begin to act negatively toward any kind of authority over us.
Elder James E. Talmage (an early General Authority of the Church) tells the story of a bee that flew into his office on a warm summer day. After buzzing through the room several times, the bee failed to find the partly opened window through which it had entered.

Elder Talmage understood some things that the bee could not. He knew that if the bee remained trapped in the room, it would die. Hoping to free it, he stepped to the window and opened it wide.

He tried to guide the bee out the window. But it would not be guided. He tried harder, but the bee became angry and even stung his hand.  The bee persisted in its wild flight and never found the window to its freedom.

By the following day, it had died.

(James E. Talmage, “The Parable of the Unwise Bee,” Improvement Era, Nov.1962, p.817.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Too often in our lives we are like the bee in our adversity.  Adversity may have come because of a wrong decision the bee made, perhaps the wrong decision of another, or perhaps just as part of life to teach the bee a lesson it couldn’t have learned otherwise.  There was, however, someone greater than the bee willing to help him to safety.  But the bee did not have the right perspective it needed and instead rebelled against the help it had.
We too have a choice when trials and tribulations come our way, as they surely will.  We can either follow the gentle hand of the Spirit and learn the lesson we were to learn, or we can rebel and remain in our trial… or even worse, rebel and eventually die a spiritual death.  It is all about maintaining our perspective.  This life, and these trials, although overwhelming they may seem, are just moments in time where the Lord would have us learn.  Learn the lesson and fly out the window!

Church Gossip

Irene, the church gossip, and self appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business. Several members did not approve of her extra curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused George, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old 1946 GREEN pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told George, and several others, that everyone seeing it there would know exactly what he was doing.

George, a man of few words, stared at her for a few moments and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend or deny! He said nothing!

Later that evening, George quietly parked his 1946 GREEN pickup in front of Irene's house .... walked home .... and left it there....all night!

Gotta love George and his 1946 GREEN StudeBaker M5 Pickup!

It’s All in the Translation

A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church, by hand.

He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the Old Abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies.

The head monk, says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son."

He goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original manuscripts are held as archives, in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the Old Abbot.

So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him banging his head against the wall and wailing.

"We missed the R !
We missed the R !
We missed the bloody R !"

His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying uncontrollably.
The young monk asks the old Abbot, "What's wrong, father?"
With a choking voice, the old Abbot replies,

"The word was ...

It's The Thought That Counts

Choosing a gift for an elderly mother…

Three sons left home, went out on their own and prospered. Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother.

The first said, “I built a big house for our mother.” The second said, “I sent her a Mercedes with a driver.” The third smiled and said, “I've got you both beat.

You remember how mom enjoyed reading the Bible? And you know she can't see very well. So I sent her a remarkable parrot that recites the entire Bible. It took elders in the Church 12 years to teach him. He's one of a kind. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot recites it.”

Soon thereafter, mom sent out her letters of thanks:

“David,” she wrote one son, “The house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house.”

“John,” she wrote to another, “I am too old to travel. I stay most of the time at home, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!”

“Dearest Jeffrey,” she wrote to her third son, “You have the good sense to know what your mother likes. The chicken was delicious.”

The Best Poem In the World

"A cheerful heart is good medicine" (Prov.  17:22)

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp–
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money! Twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
Would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.

'And why's everyone so quiet,
So somber – give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you.'

JUDGE NOT.
Remember…Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian
Any more than…Standing in your garage makes you a car.

Trucker's Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for all the miles without an accident.
But I wanna ask just one more favor before my life is spent.
Please, Lord, just once before I turn to dust,
Let me run the wheels plumb off a Greyhound bus.

You know, I have been running these highways,
In this old rig for a long, long time.
And I have been humiliated by them dang buses,
Till it's a crime.

An' even when I'm empty,
Givin' it all she's got in high,
Why they just blow them air horns,
And flash them lights an' fly right on by.
Now, if I had me a big rig,
That'd do about a hundred under a great big load,
Well, I'd wind her up tight,
And blow me one of them grey dogs plumb off the road.

So, Lord, before my last run,
Up one of them mighty golden stairs,
I hope there will be an answer,
To this poor old trucker's prayer.
But thank you, Lord, for all the miles without an accident.
But I wanna ask just one more favor before my life is spent.
Please, Lord, just once before I turn to dust,
Let me run the wheels plumb off a Greyhound bus.

Butterflies Are Free

I said to the Lord, "Lord, let me be

Like the butterfly, so fine and so free.

Let my heart take wings and without a care,

Let me spread enjoyment everywhere!"

"My Child," said the Lord, "it's up to you.

Are you willing to trust me, like the butterflies do?"

"Yes, Lord, I trust you," was my glib reply,

How much could it cost...to be a butterfly?

"Fine," said the Lord, "let's get on with it then,

Because first you must die - and that's how we begin!"

My heart skipped a beat, and my stomach grew tight,

As I said to the Lord, "Did I hear you right?"

"My Child," said the Lord, "surely you know -

The worm has to die, so that beauty can grow.

It's not easy, that's true, but My way is best,

And I'll be beside you all through your test."

Then the Lord took His finger and touched my heart;

And began to probe each secret part.

Each place He touched was exposed to the light,

And I could see myself as only He might.

Unforgiveness, anger, selfishness, too.

All had to go, if I would be new.

"I'm sorry," I cried, "please help me to DIE.

I do so want to be your BUTTERFLY."

"I love you, Jesus," was all I could say,

"Come into my heart, And make it Yours today.

Whatever it takes, Lord, I'm ready now,

Your servant is waiting, just show me how."

"My Child," said the Lord, "You have already begun,

And we'll continue to work till the job is done.

Little by little, each day you will die,

But you will live again, as my Butterfly

So long I had searched for life's meaning,
Enslaved by the world and my greed;
Then the door of the prison was opened by love,
For the ransom was paid...I was free.

I'm free from the fear of tomorrow,
I'm free from the guilt of the past;
For I've traded my shackles for a glorious song...
I'm Free! Praise the Lord! Free at last!

I'm free from the guilt that I carried,
From that dull empty life I'm set free;
For when I met Jesus He made me complete...
He forgot how I used to be.

God's Lesson From Horses

THE BLIND HORSE

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each looks like every other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.
This alone is amazing.

If nearby and listening, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to her halter is a small bell. It lets her blind friend know where she is, so he can follow her.

As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see how she is always checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then slowly walk to where she is, trusting that she will not lead him astray.

When she returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, she stops occasionally and looks back, making sure her friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell. Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others see.

Good friends are like this.......... You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell, and I'll remember to listen for yours.

Parable Of the Pencil

  • The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. “There are five things you need to know” he told the pencil, “before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.”
One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone’s hand.
Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you’ll need it to become a better pencil.
Three: You will be able to correct mistakes you will make.
Four: The most important part of you will always be what’s inside.
And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.
The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.
Now replacing the place of the pencil with you; always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.
One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God’s hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.
Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems, but you’ll need it to become a stronger person.
Three: You will be able to correct mistakes you might make or grow through them.
Four: The most important part of you will always be what’s on the inside.
And Five: On every surface you walk, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to serve God in everything.
By understanding and remembering, let us proceed with our life on this earth having a meaningful purpose in our heart and a relationship with God daily.
Meditation: Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. – John 15:4
You will succeed in Jesus Name!

Sand Dollar Legend

The legend of the sand dollar is a favorite story for Christmas and Easter. It states that the five slits in the sand dollar found in the top of the exoskeleton around the petal design represent the five wounds of Jesus Christ, a popular ancient archetype in Christianity that represents unconditional love..

SAND DOLLAR DOVES POEM
Stroll along with your feet in the sand, waves lapping over your toes, soon you will find a sand dollar meant just for you. Held within are five doves, each representing an element of life; a gift of energy to you from the sea; radiance(fire), freedom(air), nature(earth), peace(water), beauty(spirit).

There's a pretty little legend
That I would like to tell
Of the birth and death of Jesus
Found in this lovely shell.

If you examine closely
You'll see that you find here
Four nail holes and a fifth one
Made by a roman's spear.

On one side the Easter Lily
Its center is the star
That appeared unto the shepherds
And led them from afar.

The Christmas Poinsettia
Etched on the other side
Reminds us of His birthday
Our happy Christmastide.

Now, break the center open
And here you will release
The five white doves awaiting
To spread good will and peace.

This simple little symbol
Christ left for you and me
To help us spread His Gospel
Through all eternity.

Five wounds suffered by our Lord from nails and Roman spear When he died upon the cross are woulds shown plainly here? Within the shell when opened five Dove of peace are found. Daughter's Valentine Wish

The woman you've become, Draws love from my heart; Pride swells me up, Though God gave you your start.

You're strong and independent, You're also loving and caring; You're always there for others, And can even be daring.

Into a woman of faith, You have grown so very well; Of your savior, the Lord, I've often heard you tell.

From my heart a song grows, Telling of your forgiveness and love; And for bringing you to me, I thank the Lord above.

Into this world children you've brought, And someday you will understand; How love for you can only grow, For daughters that are oh, so grand.

So, from my heart comes gratitude, Thank you for being you; And, thank you, Lord above, For daughters who keep Your love new.

My Lord, Help Me

Lord, help me get through today, And do what You want me to do; Help me to be a better servant To my fellowman and to You.

Help me to guide and lead, Your children to Your side; Help me to get them ready, So their eyes You can open wide.

Help me to share Your love And the peace You bring to me; Help me to show Your love, So Your children then will see.

Help me find the many treasures, That are buried within Your Word; Let me share them with all, And be the best they've heard.

One more day I want to serve My Savior and my Lord; I want the world to know my God, And His love in their hearts to store.

Lord, help me get through this day, Lead me where I should go; So many are hungry for Your grace, And You they want to know.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. Greatest Love Of All

God gave us birth and created all
No one on Earth is meaningless or too small
I love our Lord Jesus who taught us love
God has always loved us and sent His Son from above

Our precious Lord Jesus is our true Valentine
Jesus is for everyone He is not just mine
His works are written In Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
Our Bible holds life's lessons, and we create a bond

We ask for guidance and trust with all our heart
Every one of us has a purpose and even a part
Love, peace and harmony is what we all desire
Happiness, joy and fun of these we never tire

Thank you Lord Jesus for my life and love.

Valentine's Day with Jesus

Jesus does not send perfume
To linger in the air
Instead He sends salvation, sweet
To show how much He cares.
He doesn't bring me candy hearts
In boxes of delight
Instead He always lets me know
I'm precious in His sight.

He doesn't pass out pretty cards
Trimmed in shades of red
Instead He gave His life for me
His precious blood was shed.
He doesn't hand out fancy gifts
Like we would send to mother
Instead He sends a message clear
To always love each other.

He doesn't give me teddy bears
That whimper, please be mine
Instead He gave His heart to me
I wear it all the time.
He doesn't give me roses, pink
For all the world to see
Instead He gave eternal life
That's good enough for me.

Blessing of the Hands

Hands are considered to be a connection to the heart, and a hand blessing symbolically brings two hearts together.’ {by Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway}
The blessing ~ Often read before the exchanging of rings at wedding ceremonies:
Blessing of the Hands by Rev. Daniel L. Harris
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.
