The ‘S’ Elf

The ‘S’ Elf

In early days of Christmas land
Young Santa’s only aid
Was one, small elf who did the chore
Made toys, but seldom played.

So smart, so swift, so spry was he,
So speedy he became,
So skilled, so spirited with smiles,
That ‘S’ was soon his name.

Then as one Christmas Eve drew nigh
And ‘S’ checked Santa’s list,
He matched each name with gifts he’d made
To see no one was missed.

Both climbed atop the shiny sleigh
Then flew o’er lands and seas.
And one by one all gifts were placed
In stockings and by trees.

And as their journey neared the end,
Their list one name contained.
They searched the sleigh and sacks for trees,
But not a gift remained.

Young Santa soon grew quite perplexed
With nothing to impart.
He knew a lady yet not served
And sorrow filled his heart.

A once-strong woman full of love
In action, thought and deed,
But recent tragedies and pain
Had left her much in need.

As they approached her dwelling place
In barren, desert land,
Young Santa turned to ‘S;’ and said,
"I hope you’ll understand."

Then Santa gave her all ‘twas left,
Concluding to himself,
"The greatest gift at any time
Is when you give your ‘S’ elf!"

Grant Me Strength

~* Lord, Grant Me Strength *~

Grant me strength, Dear Lord, I pray,

Control my life, don't let me stray.

When I feel angered, help me see,

That I can place my trust in Thee.

When I feel I'm sinking low,

Hold me, Lord, don't let go.

Don't let Satan have his way,

For I know he'd lead me astray.

Make me strong when I feel weak,

Let my ears listen when You speak.

Let not my faith diminish in Thee,

But save my soul and set me free.

Forgive me when I start to doubt

What faith and trust are all about.

Hold me Lord, in the darkest night,

Take away my fear and fright.

May Your voice be one, I always hear,

Saying to me, "I'm always near".

"I'll walk with you and guide you well,

But you My child, must not rebel".

Lord, I love you, forgive my fears,

Please dry my eyes from all these tears.

May I always place my trust in You,

Remembering, Lord, You've always been true.

I Am A Jack-O-Lantern -  Christian Pumpkins - If I Came....

The name "Halloween" comes from the days chronological proximity to Christian All Saint's Day, also known as AllHallows. It is on this first of November day that the feast of Hallowmas was observed. Pope Gregory IV (died 844) may have authorized the AllHallows date to intentionally subvert the pagan celebration of October 31.
  Animated Pumpkin
I am a Jack O' Lantern,
My light will shine so bright,
For I am a Christian pumpkin,
My symbols tell what's right.
My nose is like the cross,
On which our Savior died,
To set us free from sin,
We need no longer hide.
Animated Cross
My mouth is like a fish,
The whole wide world to show,
That Christians live in this house,
And love their Savior so!
The story starts at Christmas,
My eyes are like the star,
That shone on Baby Jesus,
And wise men saw from far,
Animated Cross
My color it is orange,
Just like the big bright sun,
That rose on Easter Day,
Along with God's own Son.
And so on Halloween,
Let's set our pumpkins out,
And tell the trick or treaters,
What God's love is all about!

CHRISTIAN PUMPKINS

A small child had recently been baptized.
One of her classmates asked her what it was like to be a Christian.
She was caught off guard and didn't know how to answer
when she looked up and saw a jack-o-lantern on the desk.
She answered, "It's like being a pumpkin".

Her classmate asked her to explain that!

"Well, God picks you from the patch
and brings you in and washes off all the dirt on the outside
that you got from being around all the other pumpkins.

Then he cuts off the top
and takes all the yucky stuff out from inside.
He removes all the seeds of doubt, hate, greed,
and all those other bad things.

Then he carves you a new smiley face
and puts his light inside of you to shine for all to see!
It is our choice to either stay outside and rot on the vine
or come inside and be something new and bright!"

1000 Marbles

1,000 Marbles
"A Little Something about Precious Time"
Written by Jeffrey Davis © 1999 All Rights Reserved
Reprinted with permission, for AngelicDreams4U.blogspot.com

"The older I get, the more I enjoy Saturday mornings. Perhaps it's the quiet solitude that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's the unbounded joy of not having to be at work. Either way, the first few hours of a Saturday morning are most enjoyable.

A few weeks ago, I was shuffling toward the basement shack with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other. What began as a typical Saturday morning, turned into one of those lessons that life seems to hand you from time to time. Let me tell you about it...

I turned the dial up into the phone portion of the band on my ham radio in order to listen to a Saturday morning swap net. Along the way, I came across an older sounding chap, with a tremendous signal and a golden voice. You know the kind, he sounded like he should be in the broadcasting business. He was telling whoever he was talking with something about "a thousand marbles".

I was intrigued and stopped to listen to what he had to say. "Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you're busy with your job. I'm sure they pay you well but it's a shame you have to be away from home and your family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet. Too bad you missed your daughter's dance recital."

He continued, "Let me tell you something Tom, something that has helped me keep a good perspective on my own priorities." And that's when he began to explain his theory of a "thousand marbles."

"You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years." "Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900 which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime.

Now stick with me Tom, I'm getting to the important part."

"It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any detail", he went on, "and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred Saturdays. I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy."

"So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended up having to visit three toy stores to round-up 1000 marbles. I took them home and put them inside of a large, clear plastic container right here in the shack next to my gear. Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it away."

"I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focused more on the really important things in life. There is nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight."

"Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign-off with you and take my lovely wife out for breakfast. This morning, I took the very last marble out of the container. I figure if I make it until next Saturday then I have been given a little extra time. And the one thing we can all use is a little more time."

"It was nice to meet you Tom, I hope you spend more time with your family, and I hope to meet you again here on the band.

73 Old Man, this is K9NZQ, clear and going QRT, good morning!" You could have heard a pin drop on the band when this fellow signed off. I guess he gave us all a lot to think about. I had planned to work on the antenna that morning, and then I was going to meet up with a few hams to work on the next club newsletter. Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a kiss. "C'mon honey, I'm taking you and the kids to breakfast."

"What brought this on?" she asked with a smile.

"Oh, nothing special, it's just been a long time since we spent a Saturday together with the kids. Hey, can we stop at a toy store while we're out? I need to buy some marbles."

Angels Among Us

In Memory Of My Father
Lyrics To The Song "Angels Among Us" By: Alabama - Video Auto- Starts Below

I was walkin'home from school
On a cold winter day,
Took a short cut through the woods
And I lost my way.

It was gettin' late,
and I was scared and alone.
Then a kind old man took my hand,
 and led me home.

Mama couldn't see him,
But he was standing there,
And I knew in my heart
He was the answer to my prayer.

Oh, I believe there are
Angels Among Us,
Sent down to us from
somewhere up above.

They come to you and me
in our darkest hours

When life held troubled times
And had me down on my knees
There's always been someone
To come along and comfort me

A kind word from a stranger
To lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend
Just to say I understand

Now ain't it kind of funny
At the dark end of the road
Someone light the way

with just a single ray of hope.

Oh, I believe there are Angels Among Us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you
and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.

They wear so many faces,
Show up in the strangest places
And grace us with their mercies in our time of need.

Oh, I believe there are Angels Among Us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.

To guide us with a light of love

Five Sponges

There are five sponges laying on your kitchen counter. Each member of your family has been cleaning up different areas of your home, but all the sponges look the same. You are curious as to what was cleaned, but you can't tell by looking. They all look the same. So, what do you do?

As you squeeze the first sponge you see that cola comes out, and you decide that someone cleaned the kitchen with that one.

Upon squeezing the second sponge, you find tub and tile cleaner. That one was used in the bathroom.

In the third sponge you find motor oil. Someone cleaned the garage.

In the fourth sponge, baby power puffs out. The baby's nursery was cleaned with that one.

In the last sponge is floor wax. That was the one you used on the hall floor. As you lay the last one down, you look again at their similarity.

They all look the same until they are squeezed.

       Christians are the same!

As life squeezes us, different things come out: anger, revenge, tears, remorse, greed, untruth, lust and finally, from one saint, pours forth the love of Christ. Just like the sponge, we can only squeeze out what is put in. Stay in the Word daily and be in continuous prayer so that when life puts the squeeze on you, Jesus, and Jesus alone will shine forth.

As you think upon this, ask yourself, if I was squeezed, would Jesus and Jesus alone shine forth?

Below is a revision of  "The Jelly Bean Prayer".
For many years things black were associated with bad and things white were associated with good.  This unfortunately lead to hateful feelings towards people of color and feelings of inferiority and superiority.  I chose not to pass it on to the rainbow congregation where I serve a Risen Savior.

Prayerfully Yours, Lorelei Francis - 2001
Youth Director, Shiloh Baptist Church of Orlando

The NEW Jelly Bean Prayer

Red  is for the blood He gave,
Green  is for the grass He made,
Yellow  is for the sun so bright,
Orange  is for the edge of night.

Black White Brown Yellow  and  Red
are for the children He made
All of these colors receive the grace He gave,

Purple  is for the hour of sorrow,
Pink  is for the new tomorrow.

Give a bag full of jelly beans,
Colorful and sweet,
Tell them it's a Prayer....
It's a promise..
It's an Easter Treat!
