In The Attic

An old discarded bible,
So fragile with age ~
I'm sure, once, was loved,
Every sanctified page.

Dust is now its cover.
It's shameful to say,
No more being read
Day after day...

Most likely forgotten, cracked,
Tattered, and torn;
Placed in the attic
Before I was born.

A shaft of afternoon sun
Through window, clouded and gray,
Had shed its light
On this bible, that day.

How, like the father, to shed
His sweet light on his word
In the attic.
like to the blind,
He had given new sight...

A love letter from god,
For all who would read,
Answers to prayer and
Sufficient for all need.

Registered on pages,
Faded ink of light blue
Marriages, deaths, births,
And family histories, too...

As I lovingly clutched it,
Held close to my breast;
My new found treasure
That tells of heaven's best.

Of all the things in the attic
I could have taken that day,
Nothing else could compare
Or be worth taking away.

There, among doilies of lace,
Souvenirs, trinkets, and such
Lay someone's life memories;
Out of sight and so out of touch.

Lovingly, I held it,
Touching most tenderly,
A gift in the attic,
Just waiting for me...

To be cherished and read
Again, through and through;
My love letter from god,
Written for me and for you.

Wiping the dust
From the attic, set free;
Just as his blood
Was the cleansing of me.

Descending the stairs,
Closing attic door;
With bible in hand,
To be forgotten no more.

Thy words, in my heart,
Will abide, always.
I'll cherish the treasure
For the rest of my days.

A Cowboy’s Last Request

  "Let me tell you folks
Who have gathered here today
That I'm a proud and thankful cowboy
Who has just passed away

I know it's hard
But, please don't cry
Fer I'm now ridin' Gods trails
High up in the sky

The hoss I'm ridin' now
Don't spook, buck or kick
Fer God stables perfect horses
And now I have my pick

Lord, please forgive me of all my sins
Fer I haven't been perfect
But I know that he who believes in You
Forever wins!

I have lived a good life
A cowboys dream come true
Thank You Lord,
Fer I'm now ready to ride into eternity
Me, my horse, and You."

God's Team

How often do you look at your own collection of books? Do you have any that have been pushed back for the last few years? If so, maybe it's time to take a look again! You see, here at God's Page some of us tend to do just that. Because of a hunger of a ten year old named Helga, that wanted to read about God, one of our people found the book "You Can Be First String On God's Team", pushed back, unread on a shelf that had been there for years.

Little did anyone realize the power of God in this book. Even Helga didn't realize how God was using her. Since this book was given to her she read and she reread. She took a blue hilighter to mark what she felt important. She didn't stop there though. Not only did she have me read it, She also took it to Pastor Buck and said "you need to read this". He said that he would when he had time. Her response? "That's not between you and me. That's between you and God." Her obedience to God was 100%, because those aren't words that I would expect to hear from her. Needless to say, when God speaks with such power, He DOES require immediate response. Pastor Buck found everything that she hilighted of importance. Not only did this bring one sermon and bible study, there are more to come. Why are the words in this book so powerful?
Read on ...

The author was once a football player. Yet, referred to this in all sports and activities. He spoke of athletes putting 100% to the game. Giving their all. Obedience to the coach. Honor to the school and teammates. Constant preparation, even to the regiment of the diet. Encouragement to the other players. A definite show giving it all. Causing excitement for the spectators in the bleachers. Think about it, isn't that what the game is all about? Shouldn't the players give their all? Think of the cheerleaders, encouraging people to be excited about the game. People standing up cheering and clapping. They are so excited about the game. You can even hear the excitement in the words "popcorn, ice cold pop"! Yet when the team falls behind, not only do we hear the boo's and words about how they should have made a different play; we also hear people cheering them on, not to give up, but to get up and carry on. Isn't that what the cheerleaders, other players, coach, and spectators are supposed to do? Encouragement plays a big part in the game.

 Imagine if everybody would just sit in the bleachers and say nothing. Imagine the coach just sitting back, waiting to see what will happen next. Cheerleaders, let's sit them in the bleachers too. They can visit with the others. Now the other players on the bench, we'll have them look around at people and jab one of the others when a cute girl goes by. What about the players on the field? How do you think this will affect them? I picture them as lost. They don't know what to do or which direction to go. Likely they'll lose the desire to even try, nobody else cares, why should they. Somebody calls a time out, yet they are standing alone, with no direction as to what play they should make. Half time in the locker room brings them no closer to a winning game.

 If everybody is so disinterested, why should they try to go on?
Tell me, can you see a comparison between the disinterested people in the game, to people in the church? Is this how we support God and His people? His spectators and players? It's the pastor's job to talk about God. Sure the kids need to learn this because it's what they are supposed to do in bible study. Is God a Sunday obligation or is He our coach? This book also talks about the lukewarm church. How God wants us hot and on fire for Him, yet He will also accept cold, because that means that someone doesn't means the complacent people. They're comfortable with the way things are.

They sit in the same pew, Sunday after Sunday. They put their 10% in the offering basket every week. Why do they stay lukewarm? Why shouldn't they. They don't want to have to have to do anything. They want no responsibility. They don't want to look at themselves, because they might see something they would have to change. Isn't this like the little story of the disinterested people at the game?

Can you imagine what would happen to God's Team if the players would give their all to God. If God's players were excited about Him? If the spectators wouldn't only accept and encourage the players, but be part of the team. Can you imagine standing and cheering for God? Don't we need to encourage them to carry on, not too give up or quit? Why is it that we as human beings can stand at a basketball game and be so excited, yet for God, we're just bench sitters? Why at a baseball game are the stands so full and energy so high? We accept the falls and help each other back up in the game, but on God's team we cross the street so that we don't have to see what's really happening?

You see, even with the game on Friday night, the players are practicing almost every day. Tickets are being sold everyday. John asked Susie for a date to the game. PEOPLE ARE EXCITED!!! So why, aren't we doing the same on God's Team? You see, even with church on Sunday, shouldn't we be practicing everyday. Shouldn't we be asking for a date to go to church! Shouldn't we be EXCITED FOR GOD?

The author talked about winning the Super Bowl. The prizes and awards that could be won. Wouldn't that be nice? Well, when we die that ring gets left behind. That trophy will collect dust on the shelf. The Super Bowl is a reward yes, but it's only good to look at for your time here on earth. What preparations are you making for your time in eternity? That reward will stay with you forever! Life eternal in heaven would be a reward so great. You don't know how to get there? By being excited about God. By putting the greatest effort into Him. By helping train the players to be on God's team.

His team even has an instruction manual, it's called the bible. The bible will prepare you to be on God's Team. It will even tell you how to eat! You see, we have all qualified to be on the team. Every one of us. Are you willing to accept your position? Are you willing to be excited? Are you willing to let others know about God's team? You see, they're invited too, maybe they just don't know how to get on the team.
When Max and Vivian Rice wrote this book, they definitely were and are on God's team. Many thanks to them, for showing us the way to God's team. Special thanks to Helga for letting God use her in such a powerful way!!! You see, God DOES speak to us!
Remember "You CAN Be First String On God's Team"!

Keeping Our Lips In Check

"Have You Heard?" LilKittyGraphics

  1. In the heat of anger
    (Proverbs 14:17) He that is quick to anger will commit foolishness, but the man of thinking abilities is hated.
  2. When you don't have all the facts
    (Proverbs 18:13) When anyone is replying to a matter before he hears [it], that is foolishness on his part and a humiliation.
  3. When you haven't verified the story
    (Deuteronomy 17:6) At the mouth of two witnesses or of three witnesses the one dying should be put to death. He will not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.
  4. If your words will offend a weaker person
    (1 Corinthians 8:11) Really, by your knowledge, the man that is weak is being ruined, [your] brother for whose sake Christ died.
  5. When it is time to listen
    (Proverbs 13:1) A son is wise where there is a father's discipline, but the ridiculer is one that has not heard rebuke.
  6. When you are tempted to make light of holy things
    (Ecclesiastes 5:2) Do not hurry yourself as regards your mouth; and as for your heart, let it not be hasty to bring forth a word before the [true] God. For the [true] God is in the heavens but you are on the earth. That is why your words should prove to be few.
  7. When you are tempted to joke about sin
    (Proverbs 14:9) Foolish are those who make a derision of guilt, but among the upright ones there is agreement.
  8. If you would be ashamed of your words later
    (Proverbs 8:8) All the sayings of my mouth are in righteousness. Among them there is nothing twisted or crooked.
  9. If your words would convey the wrong impression
    (Proverbs 17:27) Anyone holding back his sayings is possessed of knowledge, and a man of discernment is cool of spirit.
  10. If the issue is none of your business
    (Proverbs 14:10) The heart is aware of the bitterness of one's soul, and with its rejoicing no stranger will intermeddle.
  11. When you are tempted to tell an outright lie
    (Proverbs 4:24) Remove from yourself the crookedness of speech; and the deviousness of lips put far away from yourself.
  12. If your words will damage someone else's reputation
    Proverbs 16:27) A good-for-nothing man is digging up what is bad, and upon his lips there is, as it were, a scorching fire.
  13. If your words will damage a friendship
    (Proverbs 16:28) A man of intrigues keeps sending forth contention, and a slanderer is separating those familiar with one another.
  14. When you are feeling critical
    (James 3:9) With it we bless Jehovah, even [the] Father, and yet with it we curse men who have come into existence "in the likeness of God."
  15. If you can't say it without screaming it
    (Proverbs 25:28) As a city broken through, without a wall, is the man that has no restraint for his spirit.
  16. If your words will be a poor reflection of Christ or your friends and family
    (1 Peter 2:21-23) In fact, to this [course] YOU were called, because even Christ suffered for YOU, leaving YOU a model for YOU to follow his steps closely. 22 He committed no sin, nor was deception found in his mouth. 23 When he was being reviled, he did not go reviling in return. When he was suffering, he did not go threatening, but kept on committing himself to the one who judges righteously.
  17. If you may have to eat your words later
    (Proverbs 18:21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and he that is loving it will eat its fruitage.
  18. If you have already said it more than one time
    (Proverbs 19:13) A stupid son means adversities to his father, and the contentions of a wife are as a leaking roof that drives one away.
  19. When you are tempted to flatter a wicked person
    (Proverbs 24:24) He that is saying to the wicked one: "You are righteous," the peoples will execrate him, national groups will denounce him.
  20. When you are supposed to be working instead
    (Proverbs 14:23) By every kind of toil there comes to be an advantage, but merely the word of the lips [tends] to want.
    And a good final reminder:
    Proverbs 21:23) He that is keeping his mouth and his tongue is keeping his soul from distresses.

Hello God, It's Me Again

Hello God, it’s me again.
I have a new prayer for you tonight,
One I know you haven’t heard from me before.
I know some of the things I ask for aren’t always right,
But tonight I’ve found a wish that I want even more.

You know my situation surrounding the one I love.
How can you possibly forget,
I’m always asking for help from up above.
But, anyway, that’s not the point I’m trying to get across.
You know, as well as I do, love’s not always a fair game.
I always find myself on the wanting end,
Though it always ends the same.
But tonight I ask from you just one simple thing...

Please,
Let me find someone who will love me.
Who will always be right beside me,
No matter what I’m going through.
Oh God, let her see the light that I have barely found.
Let her know just how lucky she is that I’m around.
Open up her eyes and let her see inside
Please, God, let her see me like I do,
As I look at her through your eyes.

I know this may seem a shock,
I know that’s something new.
But I’ve been around this block before,
And it’s something I must do.
I can’t wait here and cry,
Because I can’t have my way.
Though I simply can’t deny,
I don’t feel the same way.
I hate to let her completely go.
But I can’t hold on forever.
I know she will find somebody new,
And I don’t need to forget- ever!
But, God, the last thing I must restate,
Is that my only hope is,
That I find a happy place.

Please,
Let me find someone who will love me.
Who will always be right beside me,
No matter what I’m going through.
Oh God, let her see the light that I have barely found.
Let her know just how lucky she is that I’m around.
Open up her eyes and let her see inside
Please, God, let her see me like I do,
As I look at her through your eyes.

Please God let her see me
Through your...
Eyes.

Hello Operator

Hello Operator.....Could you help me please

When I saw my Mommy last, she was praying on her knees.

I never had a chance to tell, her and Daddy goodbye

I don't want them to be real sad......

And I don't want them to cry!

Listen Operator, Will you ring their phone real loud

Just let it ring until they answer, okay

Tell them It's me, I'll wait here on this cloud

I miss them so much since I went away!

Hello Mommy , hello Daddy,

......So glad that you are home

'Cause I wanted to tell you I love you

And let you know I'm not alone

I like it here Mommy...It 's pretty, just like you

Someday you'll come and stay with me

I know you and Daddy will love it here

When your souls are..... Set free

I sure miss you Mommy and Daddy

And I think about you everyday

Just look up toward heaven

And remember it's here I stay

Since I live here in heaven

'Cause from you I had to part

You have only to think about me

And I'll Listen from your heart.

For I know that's where you keep me

And all the love you hold inside

I can almost see your faces

As you think of me with pride

Mommy and Daddy, I have to go now

And...... I won't forget your love for me

So wipe those tears, and give me a smile

We'll be together again......You'll see!

The Parable of the Lighthouse

On a dangerous seacoast where shipwrecks often occur there was a once a crude little life-saving station. The building was just a hut, and there was only one boat, but the few devoted members kept a constant watch over the sea, and with no thought for themselves, they went out day or night tirelessly searching for the lost.

Many lives were saved by this wonderful little station, so that it became famous. Some of those who were saved, and various others in the surrounding areas, wanted to become associated with the station and give of their time and money and effort for the support of its work. New boats were bought and new crews were trained. The little life-saving station grew.

Some of the new members of the life-saving station were unhappy that the building was so crude and so poorly equipped. They felt that a more comfortable place should be provided as the first refuge of those saved from the sea.

So they replaced the emergency cots with beds and put better furniture in an enlarged building. Now the life-saving station became a popular gathering place for its members, and they re-decorated it beautifully and furnished it as a sort of club.

Less of the members were now interested in going to sea on life-saving missions, so they hired life boat crews to do this work.

The mission of life-saving was still given lip-service but most were too busy or lacked the necessary commitment to take part in the life-saving activities personally.

About this time a large ship was wrecked off the coast, and the hired crews brought in boat loads of cold, wet, and half-drowned people.

They were dirty and sick, and some of them had black skin, and some spoke a strange language, and the beautiful new club was considerably messed up. So the property committee immediately had a shower house built outside the club where victims of shipwreck could be cleaned up before coming inside.

At the next meeting, there was a split in the club membership. Most of the members wanted to stop the club's life-saving activities as being unpleasant and a hindrance to the normal life pattern of the club.

But some members insisted that life-saving was their primary purpose and pointed out that they were still called a life-saving station. But they were finally voted down and told that if they wanted to save the life of all the various kinds of people who were shipwrecked in those waters, they could begin their own life-saving station down the coast. They did.

As the years went by, the new station experienced the same changes that had occurred in the old. They evolved into a club and yet another life-saving station was founded.

If you visit the seacoast today you will find a number of exclusive clubs along that shore. Shipwrecks are still frequent in those waters, only now most of the people drown.

Dear Teddy

Teddy, I've been bad again,
My Mommy told me so;
I'm not quite sure what I did wrong,
But I thought that you might know.

When I woke up this morning,
I knew that she was mad;
'Cause she was crying awful hard,
And yelling at my Dad.

I tried my best to be real good,
And do just what she said;
I cleaned my room all by myself,
I even made my bed.

But I spilled milk on my good shirt,
When she yelled at me to hurry;
And I guess she didn't hear me,
When I told her I was sorry.

'Cause she hit me awful hard, you see,
And called me funny names;
And told me I was really bad,
And I should be ashamed.

When I said, "I love you, Mommy,"
I guess she didn't understand;
'Cause she yelled at me to shut my mouth.
Or I'd get smacked again.

So I came up here to talk to you,
Please tell me what to do;
'Cause I really love my Mommy,
And I know she loves me, too.

And I don't think my Mommy means,
To hit me quite so hard;
I guess sometimes, grownups forget.
How really big they are.

So Teddy, I wish that you were real,
And you weren't just a teddy bear;
Then you could help me find a way.
To tell Mommies everywhere.

To please try hard to understand.
How sad it makes us feel;
'Cause the outside pain soon goes away,
But the inside never heals.

And if we could make them listen,
Maybe then they'd understand;
So other children, just like me,
Wouldn't have to hurt again.

But for now, I guess I'll hold you tight,
And pretend the pain's not there;
I know you'd never hurt me,
So Goodnight, Teddy Bear...
