Gratitude Day 27

 Today’s Prayer

Father, I would have left me, just abandoned the project by now. But you, you have not left me as I am, you have brought me out, lifted me up, and you spend hours conforming me into the image of your perfect son, Jesus. I fight you, I doubt you, but you hold me fast, with no thought of letting go. Thank you.

Today’s Scripture

The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.
The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.

What is there to be thankful for?

The old man sat with his head in his hands
A frown adorning his face
A blind man stood just to his right
And quietly stared into space.

Another man was looking at him
As he sat down on his left.
The man concentrated on reading his lips
All his life he had been deaf.

The blind man turned to his elderly friend
And this to him did say,
"What things can you be thankful for
As we near Thanksgiving Day?"

"There's nothing I am thankful for,"
He said in a bitter voice.
"Im losing my touch; I'm getting old,
"And I don't have a choice."

The blind man touched him on his eye.
"With this you can see me.
"I'm so thankful that I can hear.
"It's with my ears I see."

The deaf man was thankful for his sight.
To him it was quite clear.
"I'm able to read your lips," he said.
"It's with my eyes I hear."

"You have the power to see and to hear.
"You're old, but yet you thrive.
"Quit smothering yourself with self pity
"Be thankful you're still alive."

From one to the other the old man looked
Then dejectedly hung his head.
"Yes, many blessings I have to count.
"On those I should dwell instead."

Reasons To Be Thankful

I do not seek the grandiose,
vast wealth nor glare of fame.
And when I'm gone, the odds are great
that few will know my name.

Though greatness I will not attain,
I'll do the best I can
with just the skills that God gave me,
for I'm a simple man.

I'm thankful for the mixture both
of happiness and pain,
which lets me best appreciate
such goals that I attain.

I'm thankful for important things
that rate high in my life.
I'm thankful for my children
and a loving, faithful wife.

I thank God for the power of love
that makes our beings whole,
eliminates the blight of hate--
a threat to healthy souls.

I'm thankful that I still can hear
the songbird's throaty trill.
And color change in autumn's leaves
each year gives me a thrill.

So I give thanks each day to God
for blessings from His hand.
I'm part of God's great Master Plan
Even I, a simple man.

Statements of Gratitude

"Thank you, God for the times You have said "no." They have helped me depend on You so much more.

Thank you, God, for unanswered prayer. It reminds me that You know what's best for me, even when my opinion differs from Yours.

Thank You, Lord, for the things you have withheld from me. You have protected me from what I may never realize.

Thank You, God, for the doors You have closed. They have prevented me from going where You would rather not have me go.

Thank you, Lord, for the physical pain You've allowed in my life. It has helped me more closely relate to Your sufferings on my behalf.

Thank you, Lord, for the alone times in my life. Those times have forced me to lean in closer to You.

Thank you, God, for the uncertainties I've experienced. They have deepened my trust in You.

Thank You, Lord, for the times You came through for me when I didn't even know I needed a rescue.

Thank You, Lord, for the losses I have experienced. They have been a reminder that You are my greatest gain.

Thank You, God, for the tears I have shed. They have kept my heart soft and mold-able.

Thank You, God, for the times I haven't been able to control my circumstances. They have reminded me that You are sovereign and on the throne.

Thank You, God, for those people in my life whom You have called home to be with You. Their absence from this earth keeps my heart longing for heaven.

Thank You, God, that I have an inheritance in the heavenly places...something that this world can never steal from me and I could never selfishly squander.

Thank You, God, for the greatest gift You could ever give me: forgiveness through Your perfect Son's death on the cross on my behalf.

Thank You, God, for the righteousness You credited toward me, through the death and resurrection of Jesus. It's a righteousness I could never earn or attain on my own.

Thank You, Father, that You know me, You hear me, and You see my tears. Remind me through difficult times that You are God, You are on the throne, and You are eternally good.

And thank You, Lord, not only for my eternal salvation, but for the salvation You afford every day of my life as You save me from myself, my foolishness, my own limited insights, and my frailties in light of Your power and strength."

The-ABCs-of-the-First-Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I have always been interested in learning about early America and the very first Thanksgiving celebration. I came across this adorable PDF teaching from Marci and Wanted to share it.

A is for Americans

Some of the earliest Americans were the Pilgrims. They wanted to be free to have their own religion.

B is for Big Ship:

The Pilgrims sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in a big ship called the Mayflower.

C is for Cramped:

The ship was very cramped or crowded. There was little room for children to play. Many people became sick.

D is for Danger:

The trip was filled with danger. Often there were storms with great winds. Everyone was afraid.

E is for Explore:

After 66 days the happy Pilgrims reached land. Some of the men went to shore to explore. They wanted to see what was there.

F is for Fields:

They found forests and fields where the native people had planted corn. They found clean water to drink.

G is for Grateful:

Everyone was happy and grateful. They found a safe place to live the way they wanted.

H is for Hard:

That first winter was very cold and hard for the Pilgrims. There was not enough food. Many people got sick and died.

I is for INDIAN:

(Now we say Native American.) A friendly Indian named Squanto helped the Pilgrims. He showed them how to plant corn and where to find fish.

J is for JONES:

In the spring, Captain Jones, the captain of the Mayflower, went back to England. The Pilgrims stayed in their new home, America.

K is for KEPT:

The Pilgrims kept working hard. They planted gardens and built houses and furniture.

L is for Land:

They learned how to hunt and fish in the new land.

M is for MANY:

By summer, the Pilgrims had built many houses. Their vegetable gardens grew well.

N is for NO ONE:

By November, there was plenty to eat. No one would be hungry this winter.

O is for ONE:

One day, Governor Bradford said, "We should be thankful for our harvest."

P is for Pilgrims:

The Pilgrims harvested pumpkins, corn, squash, beans, and carrots. They found nuts and berries in the woods.

Q is for QUAIL:

The men hunted for wild quail, turkey, geese, and deer. They caught fish in the rivers.

R is for READY:

They caught lobsters, clams, and oysters in the ocean. They got everything ready for a big celebration.

S is for SHARE:

The Pilgrims wanted to share what they had with the Indians, their new friends.

T is for THANKFUL:

The Pilgrims were thankful. Now they had food, homes, and friends.

U is for US:

The Pilgrims said to their new friends, “Please join us!”

V is for VISIT:

They invited the Indians to visit them for their special harvest celebration.

W is for When:

When everyone came, they ate together and played games.

X is for EXCITED:

The Pilgrims were EXCITED and very happy. Their celebration lasted for three days!

Y is for YELLED:

The children played and laughed and yelled.

Z is for Zany:

The children acted zany, running all around with their new friends. They had a wonderful time.

Most people don't know that the Pilgrims did not celebrate again the next year. Later on, several Presidents, including George Washington, made one-time Thanksgiving holidays.

It became an official holiday in 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln, said to set aside the last Thursday in November to give thanks.

In 1941, Congress made Thanksgiving an annual national holiday to be celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. Now it's a time for family and friends to give thanks together, eat lots of good food, watch parades and football games. It's also the start of the winter holiday season!

Look down on us, oh Lord, we pray
And keep us safe, from day to day.
Blind us from the faults of others,
Teach us to love .... help one another.

Let us be thankful for all we see,
For all we were, and are... will be.
Let us not regret the past,
Nor be the first... a stone to cast.

Thank You Lord

Thank you for your mercy, Lord,
And thank you for your Love.
Thank you for your Holy Word
Which came from Heaven, above.

Thank you for the Savior
Who came to earth and died
That we might truly savor
Your grace, to us, implied.

Thank you for each blessing good,
For health and strength and life.
Thank you for our daily food
And, even Godly strife.

Give us strength, oh Lord, to cope
With problems which we face,
That we may keep that promised hope
To live with you through grace.

Grant to us that you'll forgive
As we repent from every sin,
That, in eternity we'll live,

Thanksgiving Wish

We gather together and ask the Lord's blessing
On us, one and all,
For love and understanding
And thanksgiving for blessings we recall.

We feast on turkey and all the trimmings
As we gather around the table
And share love from hearts overbriming
Never forgetting provisions our Lord made available.

We take the wishbone in hand
And make a wish that we never forget
To be grateful to God above
Who blesses everyday with abundant love.

Our wish is that we do our part
To share with those who have need
And the Word of God we feed
To their hungry soul and to their starving heart.

A Thankful, Grateful Heart

Lord, give me a thankful heart,
one that is appreciative
one that to all Your blessings
is attuned and sensitive.

Let it be a heart,
that sings its daily praise
let it be my heartfelt gratitude
that to You I earnestly raise.

Let me have a heart,
truly thankful for all things
no matter what in my life
You should choose to bring

Let my heart flow with,
the rivers of Your peace
so my appreciation to You
I may continually release.

Lord, give me a thankful heart,
one that is steadily hopeful
let it be the heart of one . . .
who is truly, forever grateful!

Thanksgiving is

Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude to God, our Creator and Provider, whose guidance and care go before us... and whose love is with us forever.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the changes, to remember that we, too, grow and change from one season of life to another.
Thanksgiving is a time of changing seasons, when leaves turn golden in Autumn's wake and apples are crisp in the first chill breezes of fall.
Let us remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving. As we see the beauty of Autumn, let us acknowledge the many blessings which are ours... let us think of our families and friends... and let us give thanks in our hearts.

Thankful For Parking Lot Pennies

'Twas the day before Thanksgiving
When I went on a shopping spree.
I took my granddaughter, Lillie
Shopping for a Christmas tree.

We walked through parking lots
And found pennies on the ground.
By lunchtime, Lillie had noticed
That many pennies we had found.

We ate lunch at a restaurant,
And when we started to pray,
Lillie said, "Let's thank God
For the pennies we found today."

"Thank you for this food, Lord,
And for this time with Lillie too
And for the parking lot pennies,
Our thankfulness also is due."

After we finished our prayer,
And we ate our delicious food,
Lillie said, "For a fudge sundae,
I think I am really in the mood!"

We ordered sundaes from the waiter,
And little Lillie announced to him,
"Grandma has parking lot pennies.
We prayed and thanked God for them."

"Is that right?" he answered her,
Seeing the child, who was only three.
"Maybe my grandma will leave a tip.
You'll like the pennies, you'll see."

The waiter and I both chuckled
At the boldness of this little tot,
But I really was thankful that day
For pennies found in the parking lot.

Thanksgiving In The USA

Near the end of November in the USA
Is our national Thanksgiving Day.
We close stores, schools, and banks
And give to God our special thanks.

It is a time for us to celebrate
From coast to coast and state to state.
We think of when the Pilgrims came
To these shores in freedom's name.

The first Thanksgiving was long ago.
This bit of history we all know.
A time for thanking their God above
Was set aside to show their love.

When blessings came, they had a feast.
They were not sorry in the least
For coming to this vast, barren land.
For freedom to worship, they did stand.

From that first Thanksgiving Day
Until the present one we can say,
"Thank you, God, for blessings great!
You are the reason we celebrate!"

We Are ThankFul

Our nation is so richly blessed
We often fail to see
God's power and His glory
And awesome majesty.

From the grandeur of the mountains
And the peaceful seaside glow
To the fruited plains of Summer
His blessings ever flow.

From a tranquil springtime garden
To the Autumn's razored winds
There are moments to be treasured
With family and friends.

From the solitude of Winter
Comes the promise of a rose
And the meals we share together
Sustain us Heaven knows.

We are thankful for so many things
As the leaves begin to fall
And we celebrate Thanksgiving
And praise Him one and all.

We return thanks to our mother,
the earth, which sustains us.

We return thanks to the rivers and streams,
 which supply us with water.

We return thanks to all herbs,
which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases.

We return thanks to the moon and stars,
which have given to us their light when the sun was gone.

We return thanks to the sun,

Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit,
in Whom is embodied all goodness, and
Who directs all things for the good of Her children.

I thank You for the wonderful country I live in...and for all its many heroes.
I thank You Lord for my wonderful family and friends. They are my greatest blessing.

Thank You Lord for all who have tables filled with food and someone to share it with.
And for those that have no family or food, Lord, I ask that You comfort them.

I thank You Lord for the time I had with my loved ones that have gone on to be with You. They shall always be loved and greatly missed.
Thank You Lord for allowing me to have love and understanding in my heart.

I am thankful for each strand of hair
That grows upon my head
I am thankful for the clothes I wear
And for a nice warm bed.

Who make me feel so glad
I am thankful for a doctor's care
When I am feeling bad.

I am thankful for my family
Who cheer me when I am blue
I am thankful for the U.S.A.
And for our soldiers too.

I am thankful for the gentle rains
That fall upon the earth
I am thankful for the life it brings
And for a baby's birth.
