The Ten Commandments — Cowboy Style

USA Today, in its 3/10/03 edition, had a large article on two cowboy churches in Texas. They printed the Cowboy's Ten Commandments posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie, Texas.
Maybe if we all used these instead of the one with all the "shalt nots" in it, we could probably understand and live up to them a lot better!
    (1) Just one God

    (2) Honor yer Ma and Pa

    (3) No tellin' tales or gossipin'

    (4) Git yerself to Sabbath meetin'

    (5) Put nothin' before God

    (6) No foolin' around with another feller's gal

    (7) No killin'

    (8) Watch yer mouth

    (9) Don't take what ain't yers

    (10) Don't be hankerin' fer yer buddy's stuff
Guess cowboys just kinda tell it like it is!
Y'all have a good day now... ya' heah?

**The Cowboy’s Code of Brotherhood: A Biblical Guide**

By Rev. Joseph Holmes Cowboy Preacher and Author (C)2024
    1. **Stand Together in Faith:** Just as Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us that two are better than one, let us support our fellow cowboys in times of need, lifting each other up when the trail gets rough.

    2. **Share the Load:** As Galatians 6:2 teaches, “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” When a brother is weighed down, lend your strength and share the weight on their shoulders.

    3. **Offer a Helping Hand:** Just like the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37, let us not pass by those in distress. Stop, help, and show compassion to fellow cowboys facing tough times.

    4. **Pray for Each Other:** In James 5:16, we are called to pray for one another. Take time to lift your fellow cowboys in prayer, asking for strength, healing, and comfort during hard days.

    5. **Encourage with Kind Words:** Proverbs 12:25 tells us that "anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad." Speak words of encouragement and hope to uplift your fellow cowboys when they are feeling low.

    6. **Stay True to Your Word:** As Proverbs 25:14 advises, be a reliable friend. When you pledge to help, be steadfast in your commitment, showing loyalty and trustworthiness.

    7. **Celebrate Together:** Life’s trials can be heavy, but don't forget to celebrate the wins, big and small. As Ecclesiastes 3:13 reminds us, enjoy the good that comes your way—share joy with your brothers on the ranch.

    8. **Forgive Freely:** In the spirit of Matthew 6:14-15, remember that everyone stumbles. Practice forgiveness and grace, allowing your friendships to grow stronger through understanding.

    9. **Be There in Silence:** Sometimes, the best support is a quiet presence. As Job’s friends learned, sometimes just being there is enough; listen and offer comfort without the need for words.

    10. **Live with Integrity:** Above all, live your life with honesty and integrity, embodying the principles of faith and brotherhood. As Proverbs 3:3-4 teaches, let kindness and truth not forsake you, and you will find favor with both God and man.

By living this code, we honor the spirit of camaraderie and the timeless values that bind us as brothers on this rugged journey of life That we call Cowboy.
