In 2020, the largest live nativity scene in the world was held in the small Marche town of Genga, Italy, according to a post on a blog about Christmas in Marche. The event, organized by Amici del Presepe, took place in a large area, including the Frasassi caves, and featured over 300 performers, including shepherds, fishermen, and peasants. The nativity scene also included the Frasassi Sanctuary, a stone church inside the caves, where visitors could interact with local artisans. Although the event was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it usually takes place twice a year, on St. Stephen's Day (December 26) and again a few days before the new year.
