Yesterday I saw a headline about the Corona virus. For some reason the headline jumped out at me.
I knew the Lord was speaking to me so I was still for a moment and just looked at the headline:
Also see "THE BEATITUDES IN THE TIME OF COVID" written by Duke Divinity Pastoral Intern, Maggie Thomas, and offered during Sunday Liturgy on March 29,2020"COVID 19 death rates increase." I don't write that to spark fear. I just know that in that moment the Lord was trying to speak to me. I grabbed my Bible next to me and saw it was bookmarked to 2 Corinthians. I looked at the headline again and this is how it jumped out at me: CO VID 19 I thought well maybe the CO is talking about the book of Corinthians. So I opened up my Bible to 2 Corinthians. I looked up the verse 1:9. And when I saw it, I couldn't believe it! This is what it says: "Indeed we felt that we had received theMan!! Did you get that? How many of you have been relying on yourselves? Have you been relying on your ability to stock up on food? On your ability to provide for your family? How many of you have started to leave God out of the equation a bit more out of fear and worry? God is using this to show us not to rely on ourselves but to rely on Him! His power!God is using this to break off pride and fear and to instill complete trust in Him! But wait.... there is more! The word "vid" is in the very middle. I decided to look up the meaning of it. Guess what it means? It means to see. What if God is asking us to SEE that He is still in the midst of this? He hasn't forsaken us. His promises are still YES and Amen! As scary as the world may appear to look right now, I encourage all of you to release your fears to Him. Don't rely on your power and your ability to get by. Seek Him wholeheartedly. The word corona has a definition of a crown. But it also has another meaning that says "what surrounds you." If you look at what surrounds us today, it may look like it is not pretty. Lack of supplies, long lines, scared people, closed buildings, etc. But let's not lose focus that in the midst of this, God is here. And He will never leave us. He surrounds us like a shield. He surrounds us with His glory. "And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive |

This beautiful prayer was written by an Italian priest who is self-isolating at the moment and very sadly lost his own brother a few days ago to Covid-19.
I'm staying at home, Lord! And today, I realise, you taught me this,
remaining obedient to the Father, for thirty years in the house of Nazareth,
waiting for the great mission. I stay at home, Lord, and in Joseph's studio, your keeper and mine, I learn to work, to obey, to round the corners of my life and prepare you a work of art. I'm staying at home, Lord! And I know that I am not alone because Mary, like any mother, is in the next room, doing chores and preparing lunch for all of us, God's family. I'm staying at home, Lord! And I do it responsibly for my own good, for the health of my city, for my loved ones, and for the good of my brother, whom you have put beside me, asking me to take care of him in the garden of life. I'm staying at home, Lord! And in the silence of Nazareth, I pledge to pray, to read, study, meditate, be useful for small jobs, in order to make our home more beautiful and more welcoming. I'm staying at home, Lord! And in the morning, I thank you for the new day you give me, trying not to spoil it and welcome it with wonder, as a gift and an Easter surprise. I'm staying at home, Lord! And at noon I will receive the greeting of the angel, I will make myself useful for love, in communion with you who have made you flesh to live among us; and, tired of the journey, thirsty, I will meet you at Jacob's well, and thirsty for love on the Cross. I'm staying at home, Lord! And if the evening takes me melancholy, I will invoke you like the disciples of Emmaus:stay with us, the evening has arrived and the sunsets. I'm staying at home, Lord! And in the night, in communion of prayer with the many sick, the lonely and all the caregivers, I will wait for the dawn to sing your mercy again and tell everyone that, in the storms, you have been my refuge. I'm staying at home, Lord! And I don't feel alone and abandoned because you told me: I'm with you every day. yes, and especially in these days of confusion, O Lord, in which, if my presence is not necessary, I will reach everyone, only with the wings of prayer. Amen Author: Joseph, Italian Bishop |

I walked into the grocery store not particularly interested in buying groceries. I wasn't hungry. The pain of losing my husband of 37 years was still too raw. And this grocery store held so many sweet memories.
Rudy often came with me and almost every time he'd pretend to go off and look for something special. I knew what he was up to. I'd always spot him walking down the aisle with the three yellow roses in his hands. Rudy knew I loved yellow roses.
With a heart filled with grief, I only wanted to buy my few items and leave, but even grocery shopping was different since Rudy had passed on. Shopping for one took time, a little more thought than it had for two. Standing by the meat, I searched for the perfect small steak and remembered how Rudy had loved his steak.
Suddenly a woman came beside me. She was blonde, slim and lovely in a soft green pantsuit. I watched as she picked up a large pack of T-bones, dropped them in her basket, hesitated, and then put them back. She turned to go and once again reached for the pack of steaks. She saw me watching her and she smiled. "My husband loves T-bones, but honestly, at these prices, I don't know."
I swallowed the emotion down my throat and met her pale blue eyes. "My husband passed away eight days ago," I told her. Glancing at the package in her hands, I fought to control the tremble in my voice. "Buy him the steaks. And cherish every moment you have together." She shook her head and I saw the emotion in her eyes as she placed the package in her basket and wheeled away.
I turned and pushed my cart across the length of the store to the dairy products.
There I stood, trying to decide which size milk I should buy.
A quart, I finally decided and moved on to the ice cream section near the front of the store.
If nothing else, I could always fix myself an ice cream cone.
I placed the ice cream in my cart and looked down the aisle toward the front.
I saw first the green suit, then recognized the pretty lady coming towards me. In her arms she carried a package. On her face was the brightest smile I had ever seen. I would swear a soft halo encircled her blonde hair as she kept walking toward me, her eyes holding mine. As she came closer, I saw what she held and tears began misting in my eyes.
"These are for you," she said and placed three beautiful long stemmed roses in my arms. "When you go through the line, they will know these are paid for." She leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek, then smiled again.
I wanted to tell her what she'd done, what the roses meant, but still unable to speak, I watched as she walked away as tears clouded my vision. I looked down at the beautiful roses nestled in the green tissue wrapping and found it almost unreal. How did she know? Suddenly the answer seemed so clear. I wasn't alone.
"Oh, Rudy, you haven't forgotten me, have you?" I whispered, with tears in my eyes. He was still with me, and she was his angel.

The multitude
was not subdued
with Jesus on display.
So I pushed near,
to better hear
what they all had to say.
It was his task
that Pilate ask,
Are You King of the Jews?
With Jesus mute
there was dispute
and so the crowd would choose.
Barabbas won,
so on the run
good Peter tried to hide.
The time was grim
when asked of him,
but three times he denied.
Now at the cross
was greater loss
with torture and with pain.
From crown of thorn
to nails and scorn,
would someone please explain?
Though not His fault,
they would not halt.
Was this unstoppable?
I called His name
so I could blame
the one responsible.
Above the din
I asked again,
"Oh, whose sin it could be?"
Through blood and sweat
I won't forget
when His eyes turned to me.
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus · Amy Grant (Lyrics)
[Chorus]
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
[Verse 1]
O soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
[Verse 2]
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there
Over us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conquerors we are
[Chorus]
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
[Verse 3]
His word shall not fail you, He promised
Believe Him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is dying
His perfect salvation to tell
[Chorus]
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
[Outro]
Oh, turn your, oh, turn your
Oh, turn your eyes upon Jesus
Oh, turn your, oh, turn your
Oh, turn your eyes upon Jesus
Oh, turn your, oh, turn your
Oh, turn your eyes upon Jesus
Oh, turn your, oh, turn your
Oh, turn your eyes upon Jesus
Oh, turn your, oh, turn your
Oh, turn your eyes upon Jesus
Oh, turn your, oh, turn your
Oh, turn your eyes upon Jesus

My life, my love, all that I bring
I render unto Christ my Lord
All lovingly admired, adored
O cross of Calvary to thee I look
My sins and burdens all forsook
To bear the only I can bear
I worship thee in praise and prayer
O cross of Calvary to thee I gaze
Thy lovingkindness shall amaze
The dimmest portion of my mind
My heart to wonder is resigned
O cross of Calvary to thee I bring
An offering made unto my king
Who my lips to Him inspire
Songs and hymns of His desire
O cross of Calvary to thee I make
A promise that I cannot break
In pledge to love and all forsake
To follow thee this vow I take
O cross of Calvary to thee I pray
I come to thee and loving say
How great I owe to thee who died
This debt of love thee glorified
O cross of Calvary to thee I plead
For those I love I intercede
Thy grace and mercy them impart
Thy love to touch a tender heart
O cross of Calvary to thee I go
The time will come when I shall know
My living here has reached its end
I rise to thee in heaven’s land
O cross of Calvary to thee I confess
All my flaws and unworthiness
Shall be cleansed and washed away
Before thee stand on judgment day
O cross of Calvary to thee I bless
Thou whose love art blissfulness
With whom I find joy through the pain
Sweeter yet my blessing gain.

Two thousand years ago, few trees in the Middle East were not big enough to construct anything. However, one tree was valued above the others for its thick trunk and fine, strong wood. When the Romans came to rule over Jerusalem, their government used this same timber to build the crosses for executing criminals. A group of workers were assigned to gather wood for the crosses. Before long, every Roman official knew the best wood came from these gatherers of execution wood, so those workers became popular.
One day, the wood gatherers received a special request. An officer of the Roman court came and said, "The King of Jews is to be put to death. Deliver an extra-large cross made from your finest wood." So, a fresh tree was cut from the forest of the trees with thick trunks and fine, strong wood. An extra-tall (and extra-heavy) cross was quickly made and delivered. Three days after the death of Jesus of Nazereth, the chief wood gatherer got alarming news. "All of our finest trees are withering!" the messenger whispered. The wood gatherer hurried to the forest and saw that it was true.
Several years later, the chief wood gatherer heard that, every spring, many people visited the old forest that had once made his job so easy. Despite his advancing years, he set out to discover why. He saw the remains of forest, now like a salty bottoms, with only a few trees still standing tall, baked, lifeless and rotting.
But what was this? As he drew closer, his feeble eyes could make out the people walking among thousands of beautiful, flowering bushes. Seeing one of his own workers there, the old man said, "No one could ever make a cross out of this twisted wood. Our finest tree has gone to the dogs!" He noticed the beautiful white flowers, each blossom looking as if it had been burned from the touch of a miniature cross. So...an old and beautiful legend has it that, at the time of the crucifixion, the dogwood was comparable in size to the oak tree and other monarchs of the forest. Because of its firmness and strength it was selected as the timber for the cross, but to be put to such a cruel use greatly distressed the tree. Sensing this, the crucified Jesus in his gentle pity for the sorrow and suffering of all said to it:
"Because of your sorrow and pity for My sufferings, never again will the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a gibbet. Henceforth it will be slender, bent and twisted and its blossoms will be in the form of a cross -- two long and two short petals. In the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints -- brown with rust and stained with red -- and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns, and all who see this will remember."
