My mother bought a box of crayons, just for me.
I picked them up and I opened them up and I looked way down inside,
And the colors there reminded me of Jesus when He died.
O...Red is the color of the blood that He shed,
Brown is for the crown of thorns they laid upon His head.
Blue is for royalty! Within Him did dwell;
And Yellow is for the Christian who's afraid to tell.
I colored and I colored 'til the crayons were all gone,
And though I am much older now, the mem'ry lingers on.
And when I see a little child with crayon box in hand,
I tell them what they mean to me and hope they'll understand.
O...Red is the color of the blood that He shed,
Brown is for the crown of thorns they laid upon His head.
Blue is for royalty! Within Him did dwell;
And Yellow is for the Christian who's afraid to tell.
Afraid to tell of a Saviour who died on Calvary,
He died for lowly sinners just like you and me;
And someday soon He's coming back to be our King,
And the colors of the crayon box we will sing!
O...Red is the color of the blood that He shed,
Brown is for the crown of thorns they laid upon His head.
Blue is for royalty! Within Him did dwell;
And Yellow is for the Christian who's afraid to tell.
So, don't you be a Christian, who's afraid to tell!

Blue is indeed for royalty. The Romans and Jews mocked Christ's Kingship. In fact, the unsaved Jews still do today. But the wise men knew Who He was (Matthew 2:2). Both the governor of Judaea and Pilate asked Jesus if He was the King of the Jews. To both He answered, "Thou sayest" (Matthew 27:11, Mark 15:2, Luke 23:3, John 18:33). The words--written by Pilate, who feared that Jesus was exactly Who He claimed to be--"JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS" were written in Hebrew and Greek and Latin, readable to all those obedient Jews who were present for the first holy convocation of the 3 their presence was required in Jerusalem (Exodus 12:16, Deuteronomy 16:16, II Chronicles 8:13, John 19). That year, they were present in Jerusalem to watch the fulfillment of the Passover, the blood of the spotless "Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world"...(John 1:29). They saw the Unleavened Body, broken for them (I Corinthians 11:24). And if they were still present on the first day of the week, they could have seen "the FIRSTFRUITS of them that slept" (I Corinthians 15:20) !
And Yellow is indeed for the silent Christian...who fears what man might think of him and ignores God's command to GO and TELL!
Psalm 118:6, "The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?"
Proverbs 29:25, "The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe."
& Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
So don't YOU be a Christian...who's afraid to tell!
AngelicDreams4U Webmaster,
Nothing would delight me more than for you to post a page on your site dedicated to the simple attempt of a 17-year-old boy to express his newfound faith in Christ. As I sat on the porch of my sister's home while my mother read her Bible, this little song came to me. While in Bible college a young fellow who has a wonderful tenor voice and can really play the guitar took it to Nashville with him in 1969 and left with a contract with what was then the biggest Gospel music recording company in the world--Heartwarming/Impact Records. After his record was released, this little song took on a life of it's own, was published in sheet music, and spread throughout the country and around the world. I get several requests a week after these 38 years for copies. Four of them are now sitting in envelopes waiting to be mailed to those like yourself who grew up singing it.
Please feel free to publish it to your site. You may also provide my e-mail address, wmvmason@hotmail.com, for those who might like a copy at no charge. In fact, the song is experiencing a bit of a revival as Christians from all over are ordering copies and continue to sing it. All I ask is that you provide me with the link so that I can look at it once in awhile and thank God that He is still able to make so much of so little.
Regards, William V. Mason
